We welcome Vessi Ivanova to our community. She is a seasoned professional in the field and board member of the IESANZ in Australia. Vessi sat down with VLDC's Martin Klaasen, at this year’s Light in Focus event in Sydney, which was held back in June 2023. 

We delve into her thoughts about the event, the mission of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES), and discuss what's on the horizon in the dynamic world of lighting. 

“The mission of the IES is to promote art and science via education, via strong representations in standards and via organising platforms where people can exchange ideas and connect. Then they listen to keynote speakers and others and they can take that knowledge with them and further investigate. Any lighting professional can benefit.” — Vessi Ivanova

Short Bio:

21 years of lighting design expertise in the Building Services industry. Her distinguished career includes roles as a senior designer at Webb Australia, Design Director at NDYLIGHT in Sydney, and Manager of Specialist Lighting Design at Northrop, Sydney.

Vessi has a proven track record of delivering award-winning lighting designs across diverse sectors, including commercial, retail, clubs, landmark attractions, and sports lighting. Notably, she recently led the successful design of the renowned Optus Stadium in Perth, Western Australia.

Her contributions to the lighting industry extend to impactful involvement with the Illuminating Engineering Society of Australia and New Zealand (IESANZ), where she served as the President of the NSW Chapter for three years, following years of participation in the ESANZ NSW CMC.
